Aji Limon (Capsicum baccatum) 2L Pot

Aji Limón, also known as Lemon Drop, is a Peruvian chilli variety grown for its yellow fruit and citrus-like flavour.

The plant develops a tall, branching habit with green foliage. Its white flowers usually display greenish or yellow markings characteristic of Capsicum baccatum.

The slender peppers begin green before ripening to a bright yellow colour. They have a sharp, fruity flavour often described as having lemon or citrus notes, combined with substantial heat.

Aji Limón can be used in fresh salsas, sauces, marinades, seafood dishes and chilli pastes. The thin-walled fruit is also suitable for drying and grinding into flakes or powder.

In the UK, Aji Limón grows most reliably in a greenhouse or polytunnel due to its relatively long growing season.

Growing Advice

Grow your Aji Limón in fertile, well-draining compost in a warm and bright position. Move the plant into a large container to provide sufficient space for root development.

Keep the compost evenly moist during active growth, flowering and fruit development. Avoid repeated wilting or prolonged waterlogging.

Feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser during early growth. Change to a high-potassium tomato feed once flowers or young peppers begin to appear.

The plant can develop long, spreading branches and may require support with canes or ties.

Aji Limón can be moved outside during settled warm weather but is more likely to ripen its fruit fully when grown under glass.

Plants can sometimes be overwintered in a bright, frost-free position.

Fruiting in the UK

Aji Limón can produce fruit in the UK, although the peppers require a long season to reach their mature yellow colour.

Greenhouse or polytunnel cultivation gives the most reliable results. The characteristic citrus-like flavour becomes more developed as the peppers ripen.
