Giant Aconcagua is an Argentinian sweet pepper variety grown for its long fruit and sweet flavour.

The plant develops an upright, branching habit and produces white flowers followed by elongated, tapering peppers. Fruit begins green before changing through orange and eventually ripening to red.

Under suitable conditions, individual peppers can reach approximately 25–30 cm long. The flesh is sweet and juicy with no chilli heat.

Giant Aconcagua can be eaten fresh or used for roasting, grilling, frying, stuffing and cooking.

In the UK, it grows most reliably in a greenhouse or polytunnel, although plants can also be grown on a warm and sheltered patio.

Growing Advice

Grow your Giant Aconcagua in fertile, well-draining compost in a warm and sunny position. Transfer it into a large and stable container to provide space for root growth and support the developing crop.

Keep the compost evenly moist, particularly while the plant is flowering and carrying fruit. Avoid allowing the compost to repeatedly dry out completely.

Feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser during early growth. Change to a high-potassium tomato feed once flowers or young peppers begin to appear.

The branches should be supported because the mature peppers can become relatively long and heavy.

Plants grown outdoors should only be placed outside after the risk of frost has passed. Choose a sheltered position protected from strong winds.
