Zebrange (Capsicum baccatum) 2L Pot

Zebrange is a Capsicum baccatum variety grown for its striped fruit and fruity flavour.

The plant develops a branching habit with green foliage. White flowers with greenish markings are followed by hanging peppers that develop pale yellow, orange or salmon colouring with darker stripes as they ripen.

The peppers have a fruity, citrus-like flavour with mild to medium heat. They can be used fresh in salads and salsas or added to sauces, chutneys and cooked dishes.

In the UK, Zebrange grows most reliably in a greenhouse or polytunnel but can also be grown in a large container on a warm and sheltered patio.

Growing Advice

Grow your Zebrange Chilli in fertile, well-draining compost in a warm and bright position. Transfer the plant into a larger container as it develops.

Keep the compost evenly moist during active growth, flowering and fruit production. Avoid prolonged waterlogging and repeated wilting.

Feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser during early growth. Change to a high-potassium tomato feed once flowers or young peppers appear.

The spreading branches may require support once carrying fruit.

Plants grown outside should only be placed outdoors once the risk of frost has passed. Greenhouse cultivation will provide the best conditions for developing the mature striped colouring.

Zebrange may sometimes be overwintered in a bright, frost-free position.

Fruiting in the UK

Zebrange can produce fruit successfully in the UK when provided with warmth and strong light.

The stripes become more visible as the fruit matures. Zebrange is a relatively recent seed-grown variety, so fruit shape, colour and the strength of the striping may vary between individual plants.

What You Will Receive

You will receive one healthy Zebrange Chilli plant growing in a 2-litre pot. Plants are typically dispatched at approximately 20–30 cm tall.

Young plants will not yet display the striped fruit associated with the mature variety.
