Aleppo Chilli Plant (Capsicum annuum) 2L Pot
Aleppo is a Middle Eastern pepper variety grown for its red fruit and moderately hot, fruity flavour.
The peppers develop from green to a deep red or burgundy colour when fully ripe. Traditionally, ripe fruit is dried and crushed to produce Aleppo-style chilli flakes used in Syrian, Turkish and wider Middle Eastern cooking.
The flavour combines gentle sweetness, fruitiness and a gradually developing heat. The fruit can also be used fresh in sauces, marinades and cooked dishes.
In the UK, Aleppo Chilli grows best in a greenhouse or polytunnel, although it can also be grown on a warm and sheltered patio.

Growing Advice
Grow your Aleppo Chilli in fertile, well-draining compost in the warmest and brightest position available. Move the plant into a larger container if required to support continued growth and fruiting.
Keep the compost evenly moist while the plant is actively growing. Avoid waterlogging and do not allow the plant to wilt repeatedly while flowering or carrying fruit.
Feed regularly with a balanced liquid fertiliser during early growth. Change to a high-potassium tomato feed once flowers or young fruit appear.
Aleppo peppers benefit from a long, warm growing season. Greenhouse or polytunnel cultivation is recommended where fully ripe red fruit is required for drying.
Plants grown outdoors should only be placed outside once the risk of frost has passed.
Aleppo Chilli is normally grown as an annual in the UK. It may sometimes be overwintered in a bright, frost-free position, although survival cannot be guaranteed.
Fruiting in the UK
Aleppo Chilli can produce fruit in the UK, but full ripening is most reliable under glass. Fruit intended for drying should be allowed to develop its mature red or burgundy colour before harvesting.
The strength and flavour of the fruit can vary according to temperature, sunlight, ripeness and watering.
