Brugmansia sanguinea ‘Hot Red’ is an Andean flowering shrub grown for its strongly coloured red trumpet-shaped flowers.
The plant develops an open, branching habit with broad green leaves. Mature plants are expected to produce hanging tubular flowers in shades of deep red, pink-red or red-orange, sometimes with yellow or orange colouring towards the base.
The flowers are generally unscented and may be produced from late summer into autumn.
In the UK, ‘Hot Red’ is best grown in a large container outdoors during summer before being moved into a frost-free greenhouse or conservatory for winter.

Growing Advice
Grow your ‘Hot Red’ Angel’s Trumpet in fertile, moisture-retentive but well-draining compost. Transfer the plant into progressively larger containers as it grows.
Keep the compost consistently moist during active growth. Water demand will increase considerably as the plant becomes larger.
Feed regularly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser. Change to a high-potassium feed once flower buds begin to develop.
Place the plant in a warm, bright and sheltered position protected from strong winds.
Although it requires warmth, Brugmansia sanguinea may stop developing flower buds during prolonged periods of excessive heat. Provide greenhouse ventilation and some afternoon shade where necessary.
Overwinter in a bright, frost-free position, ideally above approximately 7–10°C. Reduce watering while winter growth is slow.
Flowering in the UK
‘Hot Red’ may flower from late summer into autumn once it has reached sufficient maturity.
Young plants may require several growing seasons before flowering. Flowering and exact colour intensity cannot be guaranteed.
