Strelitzia reginae is a subtropical foliage plant grown for its upright leaves and orange and blue flowers.
The plant forms a clump of long leaf stalks topped with broad, grey-green leaves. Mature specimens can produce distinctive flowers consisting of orange petals and blue sections emerging from a firm, beak-shaped bract.
Bird of Paradise is primarily grown as a houseplant, conservatory plant or summer patio specimen in the UK. Plants require several years of growth and strong light before flowering, so flowers cannot be expected on young specimens.

Growing Advice
Grow your Bird of Paradise in fertile, loam-based and well-draining compost. Move the plant into a larger container gradually rather than placing a young plant immediately into an oversized pot.
Place it in a bright position with several hours of direct sunlight where possible. Some protection from intense midday sun may be beneficial when grown behind glass.
Water regularly during spring and summer, allowing the surface of the compost to begin drying between waterings. Reduce watering during winter while growth is slower.
Feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser.
Plants may be placed outside during warm summer weather in a sheltered position. Strong winds can split the leaves, so avoid exposed locations.
Bring the plant indoors before temperatures fall below approximately 12°C. Keep it in a bright position and water more sparingly during winter.
Flowering in the UK
Bird of Paradise plants can flower under greenhouse, conservatory or bright indoor conditions, but young plants may take several years to reach flowering size.
Strong light, regular feeding and allowing an established plant to become slightly pot-bound can encourage flowering. Flower production cannot be guaranteed.

You will receive one healthy Orange Bird of Paradise plant growing in a 2-litre pot. Plants are typically dispatched at approximately 20–30 cm tall.
Young plants will not yet display the flowers or mature leaf size shown by established specimens.
