Chocolate Fatalii is a very hot Capsicum chinense variety grown for its elongated brown fruit and fruity flavour.

The plant develops a branching habit with broad green leaves and small pale flowers. The peppers begin green before ripening to chocolate brown.

Chocolate Fatalii fruit is usually elongated, pointed and wrinkled. The relatively thin walls make mature peppers suitable for drying.

The peppers have a strong fruity and citrus-like flavour followed by considerable heat. They can be used fresh or dried for sauces, powders, marinades and cooked dishes.

In the UK, Chocolate Fatalii grows best in a greenhouse or polytunnel where it can receive consistent warmth.

Growing Advice

Grow your Chocolate Fatalii in fertile, well-draining compost in a warm and sunny position. Move the plant into a larger container as it develops.

Keep the compost evenly moist throughout active growth. Avoid waterlogging and repeated wilting during flowering and fruit development.

Feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser during early growth. Change to a high-potassium tomato feed once flowers or young peppers appear.

The branches may require support when carrying mature fruit.

Plants may be placed outside during settled warm weather but will generally produce a more reliable crop under cover.

Chocolate Fatalii may be overwintered in a bright, frost-free position.

Fruiting in the UK

Chocolate Fatalii can produce fruit in the UK when provided with sufficient warmth and light.

The peppers require time to develop their mature brown colour. Fruit harvested while green will not have the fully developed flavour of ripe peppers.

Greenhouse or polytunnel cultivation gives the best chance of complete ripening.
