Feijoa sellowiana is an evergreen fruiting shrub grown for its silver-green foliage, red and white flowers and aromatic green fruit.
Pineapple Guava develops a dense, branching habit with glossy green leaves and silvery undersides. Mature plants produce flowers with thick white or pinkish petals surrounding prominent red stamens.
The flower petals are edible and have a sweet flavour. The green fruit contains aromatic pulp with flavours commonly compared with guava, pineapple and strawberry.

Growing Advice
Grow your Pineapple Guava in fertile, well-draining compost in a sunny and sheltered position.
Container-grown plants should be moved into progressively larger pots as they develop. Established plants may eventually be planted into the ground in mild and sheltered gardens.
Keep the compost evenly moist while the plant is young and during prolonged dry weather. Established plants have some tolerance of temporary dry conditions but will crop better with consistent moisture.
Feed container-grown plants during spring and summer with a balanced fertiliser. Change to a high-potassium feed if flowers or young fruit begin to develop.
Protect young plants and container-grown specimens during severe frost. A sheltered position against a south-facing wall can improve flowering and fruit ripening.
Avoid excessive nitrogen feeding, as this can encourage leafy growth at the expense of flowers.
Fruiting in the UK
Pineapple Guava can flower and fruit in the UK, particularly in warm, sunny and sheltered locations.
Some plants show partial self-fertility, but growing more than one genetically different seedling may improve pollination and fruit set.
Fruit normally develops over a long season and may not ripen during cool summers. Fruit production cannot be guaranteed.
