Pink Guava (Psidium guajava) 2L Pot

Psidium guajava is a tropical fruit tree grown for its evergreen foliage, white flowers and aromatic fruit.

Pink Guava develops a branching habit with oval green leaves and smooth young stems. Mature plants produce white flowers with numerous prominent stamens followed by rounded or pear-shaped fruit.

The fruit ripens from green towards yellow and is expected to contain pink or salmon-coloured flesh. The aromatic pulp has a sweet, tropical flavour and can be eaten fresh or used in juices, smoothies, jams, desserts and sauces.

In the UK, Pink Guava is best grown in a heated greenhouse, conservatory or large container that can be moved under cover for winter.

Growing Advice

Grow your Pink Guava in fertile, moisture-retentive but well-draining compost. Move the plant into progressively larger containers as it develops.

Keep the compost evenly moist during active growth, but avoid leaving the roots standing in water.

Place the plant in a warm, bright and sheltered position. Young plants should be acclimatised gradually before exposure to strong summer sunlight.

Feed regularly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser. Change to a high-potassium feed once flowers begin to develop.

Plants may be moved outside during warm summer weather after the risk of frost has passed. Protect them from cool nights and strong winds.

Overwinter in a bright, heated greenhouse or conservatory. Keeping the plant above approximately 10–12°C is recommended, with warmer conditions preferred for active growth.

Reduce watering during winter while growth is slow.

Fruiting in the UK

Pink Guava requires plant maturity, strong light and sustained warmth before flowering and producing fruit.

Hand pollination may improve fruit set under glass, although flowers can also be pollinated by insects.

Fruit production is possible in a heated greenhouse or conservatory but cannot be guaranteed in the UK.

Important Information

These plants are grown from seed collected from pink-fleshed guava fruit.

Future fruit is expected to have pink or salmon-coloured flesh, but colour, size, flavour and productivity cannot be guaranteed in seed-grown plants.

Only fully ripe fruit is intended for consumption. Do not eat the leaves, stems or flowers.
